U Ohn Maung, Ma Mar Mar Oo's father passed away on 22/09/2010. Mar Mar Oo (aka) Ma Swe is the only child of U Ohn Maung.

Along with fellow 88 Generations Student Members, Mar Mar Oo was sentenced to 65 years in prison on 11 November 2008. Prior to 2008, she had been detained twice for her involvement in political affairs. As a high school student, she involved in 1988 Pro-Democracy Movement and joined the National Unity Front after the military coup. In 1989, she was the first woman activist accused by a special Mandalay marshal law court under the section 5/j of the Emergency Provision Act and was sentenced to 3 years in prison with hard labour.

After her release, she passed the matriculation exam and attended BA (Hons) Burmese degree in Rangoon University. Due to her involvement in 1996 student movement, she was accused under section 5/j of the Emergency Provision Act and17/20 of the Printers and Publishers Registration Act and sentenced to14 years in prison with hard labour by the Insein Special court. After her release, Mar Mar Oo became involved in the 88 Generation Students group and participated in the August 2007 movement to protest against the regime’s economic mismanagement and hikes in fuel and commodity prices. She was arrested in 2008 and sentenced to 65 years in prison on 11 November 2008.

Ma Mar Mar Oo is the only child of U Ohn Maung. It is terribly heart-felt condolence that the only child was not present in her beloved father's funeral on 23/ 09/ 2010, due to the cruelty of the military regime. On 28/ 09/ 2010, there will be a commemoration with a Soon Kyway at No. 19, Thiri Myaing (3) Road, Quarter 13, Hlaing Township.
